Anti-Racism & Anti-Discrimination
Antigypsyism is a form of structural and institutional racism that shapes how Roma people are treated across Europe. It’s the reason why so many Roma face poverty, exclusion, violence and mistrust every day.
At ERGO Network, we work to make antigypsyism visible and to tackle it. That means pushing institutions to recognise it, measure it, and act against it. It also means empowering Roma communities to speak out and lead the fight for justice.
What is Antigypsyism?
Antigypsysim is a specific form of racism. It targets Roma, Sinti, Travelers and other who are stigmatised as “Gypsies” in public life.
It shows up in:
- Hate speech and violent attacks
- Discrimination in schools, hospitals and workplaces
- Police violence and ethnic profiling
- Segregated housing and forced evictions
- Biased media and political scapegoating
It’s built into systems, not just attitudes. And that’s why policies alone won’t fix it without tackling the deep-rooted racism behind them.
OUR WORK
We fight antigypsyism on three levels
1. Policy & Advocacy
We push the EU and national governments to recognise antigypsyism as a structural issue and to design policies. This includes:
- Anti-racism strategies
- Human rights monitoring
- Roma inclusion plans with real accountability
2. Community Empowerment
We support Roma grassroots groups to document antigypsyism, challenge discrimination, and lead campaigns for justice in their communities.
3. Public Awareness
We raise awareness among non-Roma audiences about the reality of antigypsyism through campaigns, publications, youth work and storytelling.
