What is ERGO Network

What is ERGO Network

ERGO Network is a dynamic organisation with over 30 member organisations spanning Europe, focusing on active citizenship, shared responsibility, and grassroots empowerment to bring about positive change for Roma.

Who we are

By addressing antigypsyism as the root cause of inequality and exclusion and ensuring Roma participation in civic life, we strive for a more inclusive society. Our history begins in 1995, when Spolu International Foundation started its work to improve the socioeconomic position of Roma communities in Central and Eastern Europe through an integrated community development approach. In 2004, the work of Spolu was taken over by collaborating NGOs addressing the critical oversight in policy development concerning the everyday realities of Roma communities, and 2008 was the year of the official establishment of the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network as it is now.

HOW WE WORK

ERGO Network acts as the bridge between grassroots realities and policy-making. We advocate for improved policies at national and European levels, raise awareness through public campaigns, empower Roma activists, and create spaces for networking and learning to bring positive changes to Roma communities.

WHY WE EXIST

We envision a Europe where Roma enjoy equality, social and political participation, free from antigypsyism, poverty, and social exclusion. ERGO Network mobilises grassroots, national, and international organisations to combat antigypsyism, alleviate Roma poverty, amplify Roma civil society participation, and advocate for effective social inclusion policies.

OUR MEMBERS

ERGO Network is a collective of diverse organisations and individuals committed to democratic values. We champion diversity, solidarity, intersectionality, dialogue, equality, justice, and inclusion. Emphasising equal rights and the right to define one’s identity, we foster a culture of self determination, active participation, and resistance against paternalism and tokenism for a more inclusive society.
