Call for Solidarity Corps volunteer in ERGO Network

ERGO Network is looking for an enthusiastic and active young Roma to join our office team in Brussels for 10 months in the framework of the European Solidarity Corps.

  • When: 1 volunteer from September 2024 – June 2025 (10 months)
  • Where: ERGO Network office in Brussels, Belgium
  • Who: Young Roma professional between 18 and 30

During your time in ERGO Network, you will learn about international advocacy, help us organise international meetings and events and get actively involved in Roma activism and international Roma networks in Brussels. We are looking for a young person to stay with us until the end of June 2025

Your tasks will be defined together with you depending on your interests and skills, but can include:

  • Communication and campaigning: Support the implementation of our campaign “Decade against antigypsyism;” contribute to the update of the ERGO Network and RomaReact websites and social media channels; develop creative approaches and publicity work to promote our activities and mission and a positive image of Roma.
  • Youth participation and non-formal education: Representation of ERGO Network in Roma youth events, facilitation of workshops and seminars
  • Advocacy and policy: Support ERGO staff in EU advocacy work on social policies and anti-discrimination policies; attend debates, hearings and meetings with other stakeholders to challenge stereotypes and racism, build partnership with Roma and non-Roma organizations from Belgium and other European countries.
  • Meetings and events: Assist in the organisation of the International Roma Day 2025 in Brussels and the EU Roma Week 2025, and contribute to the organisation of meetings, events and international seminars of ERGO Network and its partners.

Your profile:

  • Young Roma between 18 and 30 years
  • Good English language skills, both oral and written (At least level B1)
  • Computer literacy (experience with Microsoft Office package and social media)
  • Highly motivated to learn more about Roma activism and advocacy work and to contribute to a small but very active European NGO
  • Previous involvement in Roma or (pro) Roma NGOs will be considered an advantage
  • Reliable, well-organised and with attention to detail

You will work 37.5 hours per week (including an online language course if desired). Working hours will be from Monday to Friday between 9:00 – 17:00. However, working hours can be adapted to your needs and the activities you will be involved in.

We aim to support young people who are enthusiastic about our cause and want to gain experiences that can be later transferred to national or local NGOs. We especially welcome applications from people motivated to challenge stereotypes, antigypsyism, and racism and who show an open attitude to a unique learning and life experience and a volunteer spirit of creativity, initiative, responsibility, and independence.

We offer:

  • An allowance of 1200 Euro that includes money for accommodation, meals, local transport, language course and pocket money
  • Travel costs to Brussels

ERGO Network is hiring a full-time Administrative Assistant to join its team in Brussels.

ERGO Network

ERGO Network (www.ergonetwork.org) brings together 30 members from across Europe and supports organisations with a common perspective on Roma grassroots empowerment and equal citizenship to challenge stereotypes and combat stigmatization. We mobilize and connect organisations and individuals that share and express our values – active citizenship, shared responsibility, and passion to strengthen Roma civil society involvement in decision-making at local, national and European levels and to address existing shortcomings of policies targeted at Roma.

With ERGO Network’s secretariat growing rapidly, we are searching for an Administrative Assistant to support the team in all logistical matters.

Roles and responsibilities

Events logistics: Liaising with participants, booking venues and flights, preparing material and documentation, taking minutes and other tasks related to event logistics.

Contracting and finances: Supporting other team members in administrative contracting procedures, invoicing, dealing with reimbursements to participants, collecting financial evidence, and working closely with the financial manager to prepare and file financial documents.

Office management: Liaising with the Mundo Matonge management and the ERGO Network team about any issues regarding our office space, ordering office materials etc.

Other administrative tasks: Supporting the team in any other administrative tasks, such as data entry, filing etc.

Candidate’s profile

Essential

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with event management
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word)
  • Meticulous and rigorous in following guidelines
  • Good time-management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
  • A proactive mindset, willing to take the initiative, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving

Desirable

  • Previous experience with supporting financial administration (bookkeeping, invoicing, etc.)
  • French language skills and other EU languages are also considered an advantage.
  • Understanding of racism and experience in working with Roma communities

Conditions

  • The location of work is Brussels, with some home office possible.
  • Starting date: May 21st 2024, or as soon as possible.
  • Please note that, unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor a work permit for this position.

We offer:

  • An undetermined full-time contract (37,5 hours per week) under Belgian law.
  • Salary: 2.400 EUR per month gross salary coupled with various legal and extra-legal benefits: 13th-month salary, holiday bonus, luncheon vouchers (8€ per working day), transport allowance (49€ per month), hospitalisation insurance, additional 7 days of holidays per year.
