Recommendations on Roma Inclusion for the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework
It is essential that the Commission maintains its commitment to Roma inclusion by at least making explicit reference to Roma in the post-2020 MFF proposal. By doing so, the Commission will secure an opportunity for its directorates and services as well as for the member states to prioritise targeted funding for Roma in future policies and relevant calls for applications and projects
This paper outlines the views of national and international Roma and pro-Roma organisations and suggests key recommendations on Roma issues for the European Commission proposal on the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework.
Letter to UN Secretary General on lead poisoning in Kosovo – 18th of February 2019.
Last week 55 Members of the European Parliament from various political groups sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The letter urges the UNSG to take long overdue steps to ensure that the victims of widespread lead poisoning at UN-run camps in Kosovo receive individual compensation, adequate health care and educational support. The UN’s role in the violation of the rights of these people has been clearly documented by the Human Rights Advisory Panel (HRAP). The affected Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Kosovo have been struggling to care for sick family members who were exposed to toxic lead for more than a decade. The current Trust Fund, however, falls short of offering individual compensation and no member state has so far contributed to it.

Welcome to our new volunteer
My name is Shannon MacDonald, I am a Scottish Gypsy/Traveller from Scotland in the UK, and I am the new volunteer for ERGO Network. I am very excited to begin this role as I have always felt very passionate about Antigypsyism and discrimination against people like me and my family. I have experienced racism first hand and would like to take this opportunity at ERGO Network to hear people’s experiences and also share mine.
As a keen photographer I have tried to tackle difficult issues for Travellers through my photography, my work has been exhibited multiple times now and it is encouraging to see my culture represented in places where everyone can see. Hopefully I have managed to change some people’s negative preconceived notions that they have about the Gypsy/Traveller community. In the past I have worked with NGO’s in the UK, such as Article 12 and MECOPP, I am also a founding member of the group Gypsy/Traveller Youth Assembly (GTYA). Through these groups I have helped change small things for my community. It is important to me as an activist for Roma/Gypsy/Traveller Rights to try to make things better for people who share my ethinicity. It is extremely hard to change things when it feels like everything is against you, but it is important to try.
Discussion paper: Roma Included in the Sustainable Development Goals
The objective of this discussion paper is to trigger debate among
Roma activists on how to engage with the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs). More than three years after the proclamation of the
United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the
SDGs can provide opportunities for advancing the inclusion of Roma
and for countering antigypsyism. Almost all of the 17 global goals
are closely connected to the needs of Roma communities – from
accessing clean drinking water and affordable energy to quality
education and employment, from reducing inequalities to peace,
justice and strong institutions.
