The European Roma Grassroots Organizations (ERGO) Network is contracting an external trainer to deliver coaching visits to Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Romania to implement training with the grassroots organizations using the ERGO Network manual on accountability and transparency criteria.

ERGO Network (www.ergonetwork.org) brings together over 30 members from across Europe and supports organizations with a common perspective on Roma grassroots empowerment and equal citizenship to challenge stereotypes and combat stigmatization. We mobilize and connect organizations and individuals that share and express our values – active citizenship, shared responsibility, and passion – to strengthen and empower Roma civil society involvement in decision-making at the local, national, and European levels and to address existing shortcomings of policies targeted at Roma.

Role of the consultant

Through the ”New solutions to old problems – exchange of new types of approaches in the field of Roma integration” project, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation, ERGO Network is contracting an external expert. The expert will conduct three two days trainings in Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Romania with our partner’s organizations. The trainings are to be delivered in the English language.

The expert is expected to help the civil society organisations to be role models of transparency and accountability, to promote positive values for other organizations in the field and also to support others with their expertise. The trainings are to support the organizations in their structures and their daily work.

From ERGO Network the expert will receive a transparency criteria manual with training materials in a form of a boardgame for organisations. He/she will also be consulted on using these materials, facilitating sessions with beginners and more advanced participants, and adapting the game to the local languages.

In addition to the training sessions in each of the countries, the expert will be expected to deliver a full report of the training and to map the strengths and weaknesses of the organizations. Together with the partner organisations, the expert will develop a system to keep a record of their governance and structure.

Conditions

The training will be conducted throughout April-December 2022, with the final report expected for December 2022 

Profile of the consultant*

  • Excellent training skills
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to design manuals, modules, and toolkits for CSOs
  • Experience working with civil society organizations in the fields of advocacy, capacity-building, and network building
  • Ability to work independently
  • Romanian, Bulgarian, or Lithuanian language skills desirable

*The consultant can be an individual, institution, or organization

Contract and budget

The independent consultant will be subcontracted by ERGO Network and has no rights vis-à-vis the EEA and Norway Grants for Regional Cooperation. He/She reports to ERGO Network.

The expert will be renumerated with 6000 €.

VAT and all costs (such as travel and accommodation) related to the three country visits are included in this amount.

ERGO Network is looking for a graphic designer to finalize the design of the synthesis report created in the project Peer education to counter antigypsyist online hate speech funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020) with co-funding fromGoogle.Org Impact Challenge on Safety in the framework of ERGO Network’s project Peer education to counter antigypsyist online hate speech.

Peer education to counter antigypsyist online hate speech

With approximately 12 million people living in Europe for centuries, the Roma are the continent’s biggest ethnic minority. At the same time, they are its most disliked and discriminated minority, with every third person not wanting to have a Roma neighbour and 80% of Roma living at the risk of poverty.

Antigypsyism – a specific form of racism against people who are perceived as ‘Gypsies’ in the public imagination, is at the core of the social exclusion and discrimination of Roma.

PECAO will counter antigypsyist hate speech online by working with young people, using a combination of peer education and monitoring in order to obtain two-fold results: the peer education methodology will achieve a direct change in attitudes and actions of a high number of young people, and the monitoring will contribute to better understanding and a more systemic change of policies through advocacy based on the results.

Objectives:

  • To raise awareness of young people in ten countries of the adverse impact of hate speech on Roma and of the importance to report antigypsyist online hate speech.
  • To train young Roma as peer educators and to empower them to monitor and report hate speech online
  • To advocate for anti-discrimination policies that take into account the online sphere as well as antigypsyism as a bias motivation.
  • To raise awareness of other stakeholders of antigypsyist hate speech in online media

Role of the graphic designer

We are searching for a graphic designer to help us finalize the design and look of the publication/synthesis report of ERGO Network’s project Peer education to counter antigypsyist online hate speech.

The designer is expected to:

  • create the final design of the synthesis report, max. 65 pages
  • create the front and back page
  • put everything together for a print and online version

Profile:

  • Excellent knowledge of graphic design, visual design, and illustrations
  • Experience working with civil society organisations and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently

Conditions

Contract and budget: The graphic designer will be subcontracted to fulfil part of the work in the project between ERGO Network, EU REC programme (2014-2020) and Google.Org. The expert has no rights vis-à-vis the European Commission and Google.Org.

Role of the evaluator

We are searching for an external evaluator to assess the achievements and lessons learned of ERGO Network’s project “Peer education to counter antigypsyist online hate speech”.

The evaluator is expected to assess the achievements of ERGO Network in implementing the project and reaching the objectives set and to give recommendations for future work.

Specifically, the evaluator is expected to:

  • Conduct evaluation interviews with ERGO project partners and stakeholders involved in the project together with ERGO staff to evaluate achievements in at least 4 countries.
  • Conduct workshop with ERGO staff and project partners to jointly assess our achievements, lessons learnt and recommendations.
  • Draft a report describing outcomes and achievements, lessons learnt and recommendations for improvements, as well as follow-ups.

Profile:

  • Excellent knowledge of evaluation methodology and experience with programme evaluations
  • Expertise on Roma issues and policies on European Union and member state level
  • Experience working with civil society organisations in the fields of advocacy, capacity-building, and network building
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to concisely summarise evaluation results for different audiences
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Additional language skills desirable

Conditions

The evaluation will be conducted throughout March-May 2022, with the final report expected for June 2022.

Times for interviews and workshops with ERGO staff, members and stakeholders will be agreed upon with the selected consultant.

Contract and budget: The independent evaluator will be subcontracted to fulfil part of the work in the project between ERGO Network, EU REC programme (2014-2020) and Google.Org. The expert has no rights vis-à-vis the European Commission and Google.Org.

The expert shall be paid for the execution of the activities and services a fee of a maximum of 6,000 EUR, all taxes and VAT included.

Call for a WordPress Website Creator

We are looking for WordPress Website Creator

ERGO Network is contracting a website creator to develop the new project website on WordPress.

ERGO NETWORK AND ROMA CIVIL MONITOR

During the next three years, ERGO Network together in consortium with Central European University’s Centre for Policy Studies, the European Roma Rights Centre, Roma Education Fund and Fundacion Secretariado Gitano will coordinate a large-scale project with the aim to strengthen the monitoring mechanisms of the implementation of national Roma integration strategies. The project “Roma Civil Monitor” is managed by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Justice and Consumers.

TASK

We are looking for a Website creator to be responsible for the development, innovative design and layout of the new Roma Civil Monitor project website. Website creator responsibilities include building our website in WordPress from concept all the way to completion, combining user-friendly design and clear navigation.

The work would start in early February and need to be finished by mid-March. The working hours are flexible, but the Website Creator will stay in regular communication with the project consortium, through the ERGO Network Communication Officer.

While providing high flexibility, this role also implies discipline, good time-management and communication skills.

PROFILE

  • Proficiency with WordPress content management system
  • Understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Portfolio of strong creative work
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Windows environment
  • Proven understanding of graphic design fundamentals
  • Demonstrated ability to take a project from concept to launch
  • Strong command of colour theory, image composition, and typography
  • Strong understanding of user interface (UI), cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Good English skills

Call for a graphic recorder

ERGO Network is contracting a graphic recorder to support our Annual Members Meeting from 6-9 December 2021

ERGO Network (www.ergonetwork.org) brings together over 30 members from across Europe and supports organisations with a common perspective on Roma grassroots empowerment and equal citizenship to challenge stereotypes and combat stigmatization. We mobilize and connect organisations and individuals that share and express our values – active citizenship, shared responsibility, and passion – to strengthen and empower Roma civil society involvement in decision-making at local, national and European level and to address existing shortcomings of policies targeted at Roma.

For the second time, we are supported by DG Employment through a 4-year Partnership Framework Agreement that allows us to work closely with our members and to advocate for better policies for Roma through our work programme entitled “Roma Included in Social Europe”.

TASK

Our Annual Members Meeting (AMM) will be held online at the following times (all Brussels time):

  • 6 December 2021 – 13:00-17:00
  • 7 December 2021 –  10:00-17:00
  • 8 December 2021 – 09:30-13:30
  • 9 December 2021 – 10:00-12:00

The AMM will bring together all ERGO Network members to share experiences from their work on national level, discuss EU-level developments in the Roma field and hear updates from the ERGO Network team. It will also serve to discuss statutory items of the organisation.

We are looking for a graphic recorder who will live-record all online AMM sessions so that the participants can directly see the results of discussions on the screen. The recordings will also be used to give visibility to the meeting on social media and for the AMM report that will be produced after the meeting.

Profile

  • Experience in graphic recording of online events
  • Preferably some understanding of ERGO Network’s work
  • Good English skills
  • Availability for the full time of the meeting

Conditions
